Michael Poroi

Michel Poro'i's mastery of the guitar has made him a legend in Tahiti. His
stunning articulation and musical prowess have wowed audiences across
the Pacific. His eclectic musical style ranges from traditional Tahitian
music to classical, rock, bossa nova and jazz.
As a child, Michel's first exposure to music was playing drums as part
of the curriculum in the Tahitian school system. Although he loved
percussion instruments, it wasn't until he found an old guitar in a landfill
that his true passion for music emerged. He left school at an early age
to pursue his dream of becoming a world class guitarist. Like so many
young musicians, he formed several bands while continuing to teach
himself and explore his musical passion. Throughout his 40 years
career, he has recorded several albums and CD's, arranging many of his
own instrumental compositions.
He has performed with Julio Iglesias, guitar masters Christian Escoude
and most recently with Lee Ritenour, playing in concerts throughout
French Polynesia, South Pacific and Australia. When Michel plays the
guitar, his passion ignites great joy in his audiences.
Since few months, he is performing in a band called “Former ana’e”,
expression of the mixed culture of French Polynesia, which means “Let’s
do it”.
Michel and friends is composed with Michel on guitar and some vocals,
Paul SHAM KOUA on guitar and vocals, Gerard DOUCET on ukulele and
vocals.
