Olliephonic Horns

The Olliephonic Horns was formed in 1995 to bring big band music to the Big Island.  Ollie Mitchell was a retired Hollywood studio musician, and the group today includes several of the original musicians from 1995.  The band plays a great variety of music for dancing and listening, including the favorites from Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Stan Kenton, and other masters of the big band era.

The Olliephonic Horns began performing weekly at the Blue Dolphin (the predecessor to the Blue Dragon) in 1996, and continued performing there for six years.  They have performed at most of the major hotels on the Big Island, as well as the Hamakua Jazz Fest, and have produced four CDs.

The Olliephonic Horns Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed as a benevolent American music appreciation society in Hawaii, and raises money through performances and CD sales.  The donations are used to fund school concerts to introduce young musicians to this exciting music so that they will carry on the tradition for future generations.
